MAINSAIL Group is in search of an experienced Able-Bodied Seaman to provide support to the Acoustic Explorer. The Naval Information Warfare Center, Pacific (NIWC Pacific) is responsible for maintaining the Acoustic Explorer, a government owned vessel. This vessel provides at-sea support for the Sonobuoy Quality Assurance Program (SQAP) and is stationed out of San Diego, CA. SQAP is responsible for testing production sonobuoys, to ensure that the sonobuoys perform within contract specifications, prior to their procurement by the Navy.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of 4 years of experience in at-sea under-way operations and performing the watch standing duties and deck duties required of a deck seaman.

It is desirable that the candidate for this position have a minimum of 2 years of experience in:

  • The operation and maintenance of marine deck equipment, deck cranes, winches, transfer carriages, fairlead systems, hydraulic pumps, motors, actuators, and hydraulic systems.
  • Load cargo as part of deck department team, under the supervision for the Mate.
  • Conduct maintenance to vessel in accordance with Department of Defense Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Standing helm watches and maintaining the vessel on its proper course. Familiarity with radar and fathometer operations and capable of using the information displayed by each system.
  • Be capable of recognizing unsafe conditions or practices and making recommendations for correcting same.
  • Be adept at crewing the vessel in a safe and seaworthy manner.
  • Knowledge of common safety practices and protective equipment used on an ocean-going vessel.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Passport.
